Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 13:01:56 GMT

TOKYO (AP) — Most Japanese couldn't recognize Lars Nootbaar a few weeks ago, before the World Baseball Classic opened. Few could even pronounce his name or spell it in English or Japanese. He's becoming a household word in Japan, and fans are singing the praises of the St. Louis Cardinals outfielder at the Tokyo Dome, where he went 5 for 11 with two RBIs during Japan's 3-0 start. The impromptu song lyrics have anointed Nootbaar as a Samurai and refer to him by his middle name — Tatsuji — which is his grandfather’s name. He’s playing with Japan because of his mother’s roots, the first non-Japan-born player chosen for the national team by ancestry.Hundreds now arrive at the Dome wielding pepper grinders, which has become his trademark with the Cardinals. Fans hold up signs calling Nootbaar an “American-born Samurai," and his teammates address him by his Japanese nickname “Tachan.” Trending: Cardinals to hold $3.14 flash sale today Cardinals teammate Tommy Edman is playing in Tokyo wit...

Tank & the Bangas Barge into the Teragram: Genre-defying band Tank & the Bangas have just dropped new single “DM Pretty,” of which singer Tank Ball says, “I wrote ‘DM Pretty’ so that women could know that they are beautiful, dope, sexy, smart and obviously pretty. I also love when people really listen to the poem in its entirety to see why he’s sliding into her DM’s.” They’re keeping it real, then. McKinley Dixon also performs.Speaking to this writer in 2019, singer Tarriona Ball said, “We started in 2011 at an open mic night in New Orleans. It wasn’t every member that’s on the stage presently today, but we started at an open mic called Black Star Books and Caffe. We were just jamming out every week, and then we just wanted to know if we could take it on the road, if it was something that was contagious, if it wasn’t just something that only felt good in New Orleans. So we decided pretty early that we wanted to travel the world with our music, and that’s what we did.&#...
